General Manager, Hospitality Services Nittany Lion Inn and Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel

Seeking a seasoned multi property hospitality professional to lead Penn State’s Hospitality Services which includes the Nittany Lion Inn and the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.  Both hotels are located (3 miles apart) in State College, PA and serve the hospitality needs of The Pennsylvania State University, the local community and the thousands of guests that visit central Pennsylvania each year.  Currently, the hotels generate revenues in excess of $36 million with more than half of those revenues coming from non-lodging sources.  The historic Nittany Lion Inn is a 223 room AAA 4 Diamond property with 20,000 square feet of meeting and function space with 2 restaurants and off premise catering services.  The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel is an IACC certified facility with 48,000 square feet of meeting and event space, 2 restaurants, a large scale laundry operation and extensive off premise catering services.  

The University is looking for an individual who will provide the leadership necessary to consistently and profitably deliver world-class hospitality to the guests and visitors of the hotels while engaging effectively in Penn State’s core mission of teaching, research and service.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all facets of hotel operations to include strategic planning, long and short term financial planning, budgeting, capital planning and the execution of those business plans.  

Additional responsibilities include directing the development of the annual marketing plan for the properties.  This position requires active community involvement including working with the School of Hospitality Management in developing and educating the next generation of hospitality leaders to working closely with the many constituencies that value the Penn State’s hotels as premier destinations and symbols of hospitality at Penn State.

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with organized labor is preferred. A diverse background of experiences to include meaningful operational experience in all areas of hotel operations is essential.  Experience and competency in the areas of revenue management, marketing and sales is required.  Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required.
